Workshops to help you land an offer

Ready to attend a workshop?

All Career Services events can be found on Handshake and the student events & activities calendar.

Our workshops are practical, focused, and built specifically for CMU-SV students. Whether you're preparing for a technical interview or exploring how to launch your own venture, you’ll find sessions tailored to the roles students pursue and the skills employers expect.

Each session is led by people who understand your path, including career advisors, industry experts, alumni, and peers. You’ll leave with actionable strategies and a clearer sense of how to approach your next step with confidence.

Popular sessions include:

  • Coding Gym (Weekly): Practice LeetCode with fellow programmers who’ve interviewed and landed offers at top tech companies.

  • Networking 101: Learn how to make meaningful connections (while giving a great lasting impression) at meetups, conferences, and happy hours.
  • Learn to earn: Master the art of offer evaluation and salary negotiation with strategies that reflect local industry norms.
  • Job searching in Silicon Valley: Understand what recruiters and hiring managers are really looking for in this market.

Most students attend multiple workshops and events throughout their time at CMU-SV. It is one of the best ways to build clarity and confidence before graduation.

Tech Treks & Byte-Size Treks

See Tech Culture Up Close. Build insider knowledge. Network with alumni.

Your CMU-SV experience goes beyond the classroom. One of the ways we help you make the most of our location is by bringing you directly into the companies shaping the future of tech.

Through Tech Treks and Byte-Size Treks, you’ll step inside some of the Bay Area’s most dynamic companies to see how teams work, how ideas take shape, and where you might fit in.

students visit tech company
  • Tech Treks are larger group visits that include office tours, alumni panels, and networking sessions with engineers, product managers, and recruiters. These visits give you a high-level view of company culture and a chance to ask thoughtful questions.
  • Byte-Size Treks are smaller and more personal. You'll grab lunch with a CMU alum, tour their office, and get an inside look at their day-to-day experience. These visits are all about meaningful conversation and deeper connection. Each trek is a chance to connect your coursework to the industry around you, and to learn directly from people who were in your shoes just a few years ago.

Thinking about joining a Trek? Keep an eye on your inbox for an email from the CMU-SV Career Services team. Spots fill up quickly! We’ll also share details in the CMU-SV Slack community, on the student events & activities calendar, and in The Anchor newsletter—so you won’t miss it!

Did you know?

Over 90% of CMU-SV students land internships or full-time roles through networking, and alumni mixers are one of the best ways to start building those connections.

Alumni mixers

We host two alumni mixers each year, bringing together current students and CMU-SV alumni working across tech roles throughout the Bay Area. Whether you’re exploring a field, looking for referrals, or hoping to hear how others navigated the job search, mixers give you a chance to make those connections in a relaxed, student-friendly setting.

You don’t need to have the perfect question or a polished pitch. Just show up, be curious, and take the opportunity to build real relationships.

Register for the next alumni mixer here on Handshake.
