Strategic. Embedded. Built for what’s next.
Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley (CMU-SV) is the West Coast home of Carnegie Mellon’s College of Engineering, one of the top-ranked engineering schools in the world. For more than 20 years, we’ve been based at NASA Ames Research Park, placed by design at the crossroads of government, research, and industry.
This campus didn’t happen by accident. It was built with vision, championed by early Silicon Valley leaders who saw the value of bringing Carnegie Mellon’s depth and technical excellence into the center of a fast-moving innovation economy. That vision still shapes everything we do.
Our graduate students specialize in software engineering, machine learning, cybersecurity, product management, and entrepreneurship, all while working, learning, and building in the rhythm of Silicon Valley.
What sets CMU-SV apart isn’t just location. It’s scale. Our small campus makes it easy to connect. We run focused, high-impact events. We match employers with standout students who are ready to contribute from day one, whether you're shipping your next product or exploring new frontiers in AI.
Here’s why so many companies choose to hire from CMU-SV:

- Driving innovation through strategic partnerships: CMU-SV students regularly collaborate with leading companies on high-impact, real-world projects. These partnerships connect academic depth with practical results. Here are a couple of examples:
- Bosch x CMU-SV: Students with specialties in software engineering, product management, and machine learning partnered with Bosch to build a multi-agent system powered by large language models and reinforcement learning. The project included human-in-the-loop mechanisms to manage ambiguity in complex data sets and was showcased at an innovation session highlighting explainable AI, edge-cloud computing, and agent-assisted search.
- NASA Ames Research Center x CMU-SV: In collaboration with NASA, CMU-SV students contributed to a smart building initiative at the Sustainability Base, one of the most environmentally advanced federal buildings. The team applied a structured, requirements-based approach to adapt space technologies for sustainable infrastructure here on Earth.
These examples reflect a sampling of the work happening across CMU-SV. Graduate programs in Software Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, and Information Networking and Security prepare students to contribute across disciplines and deliver real impact from day one.

CMU-SV brings together deep institutional expertise and individual ambition. Here’s one example of what that looks like in action.
Student spotlight: From viral app to AI startup CEO

During his second semester in the Master of Software Engineering program, Michael Vandi (MSSE ’23) was inspired by the launch of ChatGPT to build his own AI-powered application. Within days, he had launched a live demo on YouTube, and it went viral. Over 10,000 users signed up in the first week.
Michael continued developing the app while completing his degree at CMU-SV. Six months after graduation, the platform had grown its user base, generated revenue, and gathered extensive feedback that helped him refine his vision.
Today, Michael is the Founder and CEO of Addy AI, the world’s first AI mortgage loan processor. Addy AI enables banks and non-bank lenders to close loans up to 90% faster, transforming a traditionally slow and manual process with intelligent automation.
Michael’s journey reflects the entrepreneurial spirit and technical initiative that define CMU-SV students—combining innovation, user-focused iteration, and a bold drive to solve real-world problems.
