At CMU-Silicon Valley, belonging is core to how we operate. We’re part of a university-wide commitment to inclusive excellence, and we carry that forward on our campus through cultural humility, connection, and care. With a globally diverse student community, we intentionally create spaces where everyone can feel seen, valued, and included.
Our approach
As part of the College of Engineering, we embrace cultural humility and shared responsibility for building a respectful, welcoming community. We recognize that inclusion isn’t a one-time effort. It’s a daily practice rooted in self-awareness and mutual respect.
On our campus, belonging is personal. You’ll find it in the way we celebrate one another, the way we build community across differences, and the way students support each other through a fast-paced, high-intensity experience.
Celebrations and community moments
Our cultural events reflect the diversity of our student body and offer opportunities to come together in joyful, meaningful ways. Past gatherings have included:
- Lunar New Year dumpling-making
- Holi color throw and chaat bar
- Eid iftar
- Mid-Autumn lantern riddles and mooncakes
- Diwali games and music
- Cultural potlucks and community meals
These shared experiences help students connect beyond the classroom and build a sense of home.

Opportunities beyond our campus
As part of the larger CMU network, CMU-SV students can also join university-wide events like:
- Deeper Conversations – Civil discourse and dialogue on global issues
- Combating Hate – Programs that foster empathy, awareness, and action
