Description

The Carnegie Mellon Innovation Lab (CMIL) is hosted an Open House with refreshments provided! Just go out the back doors of Building 23 and into CMIL for snacks, a stamp and a chance to talk to the Lab Manager, Brad Martinson.

How to Gain Access

Are you interested in using the lab on campus?
  • The Carnegie Mellon Innovations Lab (CMIL) is the larger, "outer" lab. It is a general-use lab. Bench space is shared. Once you have completed CMIL training, you can use this lab for class and personal projects.
  • The Connected Embedded Systems (CES) lab is the "inner" lab and is for Prof. Iannucci's students only. Special access controls and monitoring are in place in this lab. Once you have completed CES and CMIL training and are approved by Prof. Iannucci, you will be granted access.

Lab access is a privilege, not a right. It requires training, respect for access controls, and adherence to the written lab policies. If you would like to request this privilege, please read and follow these steps:

  • MIL information is available here. Please read it carefully.
  • Digitally sign the rules.
  • Complete the two training sessions: Student Shop Safety and Soldering Safety
  • Email two certificates of completion from the training website and the signed copy of the rules to cmil@sv.cmu.edu.
    • IMPORTANT: include your Andrew ID in your email. Your access request will be sent to IT. Within 72 hours, they will add your CMU ID to the access list, and you will be able to open the lab doors.

Access permission for the CES lab is only valid for the semester and only with approval from Prof. Iannucci.
